Desktop Virtualization and NComputing's vSpace Platform
NComputing has integrated the entire spectrum of desktop virtualization tools and devices as the vSpace Desktop and Application Virtualization Platform we announced last week. NComputing has rounded out its virtualization software, thin client devices and technology portfolio into a platform designed for user access, mobility and BYOD, as well as IT manageability and standardization.
The platform includes new, enabling software products for both users and IT managers:
- vSpace Server version 7 for Windows – vSpace Server divides a central computer’s resources into separate, virtual desktops running Windows 7 or Linux for as many as 100 simultaneous users. Over the User eXtension Protocol (UXP), vSpace Server communicates not only with NComputing’s own desktop access devices but also with vSpace Client software installed on any windows device.
- vSpace Management Center – Launching a new era in managing virtual desktops, vSpace Management Center is a web-based console that allows IT administrators to manage NComputing desktop access devices all over the enterprise. Instead of having to manage each instance on its own, admins can now control their vSpace environment as a collection of all the individual servers at the district, regional, national and global level.
- vSpace Client for Android (beta) – In a big step toward expanding the promise of mobility and BYOD, NComputing is opening desktop virtualization up to mobile devices. Sign up as a beta tester for vSpace Client for Android and see what a whole new level of mobility and anywhere access can do for productivity in your organization. (Look for an iOS version in early 2013.)
These products complement vSpace Client for Windows, a powerful solution for extending the organization’s vSpace environment to any PC running Windows XP or later at the office, at home or on the road. The value of the vSpace Desktop and Application Virtualization Platform lies in the way it gives users and IT much more of what they want:
- Users get the mobility, anywhere accesss, and BYOD flexibility with applications and network resources that they need for greater productivity away from their desks and workstations. The vSpace platform gives users a rich, familiar desktop experience from their laptops, netbooks, older PCs and thin clients, whether in the office or out of the country.
- IT gets the centralization, scalability and cost savings that come from being able to manage up to 10,000 connected user sessions through a web browser, instead of having to work physically in console software at each server. The vSpace platform lowers equipment costs, improves manageability and increases security, all while delivering on the IT mission of making the organization’s resources available to authorized users anywhere.
