NComputing Announces Largest U.S. Deployment Yet of Its Virtual PC Technology

REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - November 5, 2007) - NComputing, the leading provider of virtual PC solutions, today announced that Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) in Texas has dramatically expanded PC access for students and is in the process of deploying more than 6,000 of the company's low-cost virtual PCs. The deployment represents the company's largest U.S. implementation to date and highlights the growing worldwide adoption of NComputing's technology in education and other resource-constrained markets.

The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today's PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small fraction of their computing capacity. NComputing's virtualization software taps this unused capacity so that it can be simultaneously shared by multiple users. Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse are connected to a very small and highly reliable access device, which is then connected to the shared PC. The access device has no CPU, memory, or moving parts, and the solution is easy to deploy and maintain.

"Our school district selected NComputing's solution because of the great cost savings. We are able to stretch our limited amount of funds to install a greater number of computer stations. We get more bang for the buck," said David Oestreicher, director of network and technical services for LISD. "NComputing allows us to provide computer stations for half the price of before. This savings means we can put more computers into classrooms."

"Meeting the computing needs of education in underdeveloped markets remains one of the critical goals and strongest opportunities to make a real difference for the PC industry," said Rob Enderle, president at Enderle Analyst Group. "The rapid adoption of NComputing's virtual PC technology in schools around the world is proof that NComputing's concept works effectively to address these critical needs."

NComputing began shipping products less than two years ago and has already sold more than 500,000 seats in 70 countries around the world to organizations such as schools, businesses, and government agencies. NComputing recently announced that the Republic of Macedonia is deploying 160,000 NComputing virtual PCs across its entire K-12 school system in order to bring every public student in Macedonia into the information economy.

"We at NComputing believe that providing affordable PC access to the next billion users -- and particularly to underserved school children around the world -- is the next great challenge for our industry," said Stephen Dukker, Chairman and CEO of NComputing. "Virtual PC technology, which leverages the tremendous power of today's standard desktop computer and shares it with many, is a critical part of the answer to how we will cross this digital divide. The students of the Lewisville Independent School District will receive a richer and more relevant educational experience because of it."

As a major leap forward in green computing, NComputing solutions draw less than five watts of power for each added user versus 115 watts for a typical PC. The 95% reduction in electricity usage not only saves on the district's electricity bills, but also results in lower air conditioning costs in the schools. NComputing systems are compatible with Windows, Linux, and standard PC applications, and cost as little as $70 per seat.
