NComputing and Food For The Poor Champion Enlightened Giving to Bridge the Digital Divide in Latin America and Caribbean

Leading international charity to provide ultra-low-cost NComputing systems to poor schools in 17 countries
REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., December 16, 2008 – NComputing, the leading provider of ultra-low-cost computing, today announced a partnership with Food For The Poor (FFP), to provide computing stations to poor school children in Latin America and the Caribbean. FFP is the largest international relief and development organization in the United States. In 2007, Food For The Poor provided over $1 billion in food, medical care, and educational materials to the poorest of the poor in 17 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America.  With the growing importance of computer literacy to education and job training, the charity has incorporated NComputing-based computer stations into its giving program. FFP will enable people to donate NComputing-based computer stations for just $170 per seat or an entire seven-station computer lab for just $1,190.
The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today’s PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small fraction of the computer’s capacity. NComputing enables a single PC to be virtualized so that many users can tap the unused capacity and share it as if each person had their own computer. More than one million NComputing seats have been deployed by 25,000 organizations in more than 100 countries.
“Food For The Poor recognizes the importance of computer literacy as a developmental imperative,” said Angel Aloma, executive director of Food For the Poor. “By partnering with NComputing, we can stretch the donation dollars and bring far more computing to the schools and community centers.”  Individuals wishing to donate to the computer project can find more information in the "Gifts for Children" section at
“For less than $1,200, we can build an entire computer lab serving hundreds of students,” said Stephen Dukker, chairman and CEO of NComputing, “By partnering with Food For The Poor, we will help the next generation of citizens develop the essential skills for the digital economy.” NComputing is working with other international organizations to help communities to bridge the digital divide including Bangladesh’s BRAC, Latin America’s Organization of American States (OAS), India’s Azim Premji Foundation, and France’s Arteliers Sans Frontieres.
