NComputing Ships One Millionth Seat, Extends Leadership in Desktop Virtualization Among Corporate Users

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., September 17, 2008 – NComputing, the leading provider of desktop virtualization software and hardware, today announced the shipment of its one millionth seat. The landmark shipment reflects the increasing penetration of NComputing technology among enterprise customers seeking to cut costs, simplify maintenance, and reduce energy consumption.
“We are rewriting the rules for client computing,” said Stephen Dukker, chairman and CEO of NComputing. “Corporate IT administrators are seizing upon the benefits of the NComputing desktop virtualization solution for its 75% capital and operating expense reduction and its flexibility to leverage existing infrastructure.”

The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today’s PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small fraction of its capacity. NComputing’s desktop virtualization software and hardware tap this unused capacity so that multiple users can simultaneously share it. Each user’s monitor, keyboard, and mouse connect to the shared PC through a small and very durable NComputing access device, which recreates a true PC experience. The device itself has no CPU, memory or moving parts like a PC so it is easy to deploy and maintain, and it withstands harsh manufacturing environments. The access device and the virtualization software cost as little as $70 per seat and the solutions coexist with other virtualization technologies, such as those from VMware and Microsoft.

The solution is also a breakthrough in green computing, as the NComputing access devices consume as little as 1 watt of electricity per user, versus 110 watts or more for a PC. More than 20,000 organizations in over 90 countries have slashed their computing costs, electric consumption, and e-waste with NComputing.
“Our manufacturing facilities are tough on computers. We demand a high level of reliability and durability and NComputing has just simply got the job done,” said J. R. Muller, Network Administrator at BLD Products and Sloan Transportation, an auto parts manufacturer. “The NComputing overall computing solution provides us with the most cost-effective, reliable, and energy-saving technology solution out there.
“The low entry cost and ROI enabled us to build in system redundancy, which in our business is key. When computers are down, production is down and that affects the overall bottom line,” Muller continued. “Technology needs to work and work consistently in manufacturing, and NComputing has proven itself for our company. One million units is impressive, but given the benefits of the NComputing solution, I’m sure they’ll sell their next million very quickly.”
“IT administrators at schools and in the developing world were first to recognize the significant cost savings and ease-of-use of the NComputing solution even though there is nothing in the design of our solution that was specifically developed for such deployments. With one million seats now sold, NComputing has inarguably demonstrated the lower capital costs, lower operation expenses, and technical simplicity that will propel desktop virtualization into being a dominant enterprise technology. NComputing has redefined the economics of desktop computing,” Dukker said.

Mr. Dukker will be speaking at the VMworld conference in Las Vegas. The presentation, “The $70 PC: One Million Virtual Desktops and Counting,” will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 18th in the Solutions Exchange Theatre. NComputing will also demonstrate its desktop virtualization solution at Booth 855.
