REDWOOD CITY, Calif., September 9, 2008 – NComputing, the leading provider of desktop virtualization software and hardware, today announced that Will Poole, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential Group and former head of the Windows Client Business, has joined NComputing as co-chairman and member of the board of directors. He brings 25 years of knowledge from the personal computer industry to NComputing as well as recent experiences co-leading Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential initiatives. Poole will serve as a global ambassador for NComputing in developing countries and support expansion efforts in new markets and geographies. He will also draw on his numerous experiences with leading-edge and disruptive technologies and business models to help guide NComputing’s corporate strategy.

“NComputing has a practical and proven technology that breaks the affordability barriers that most schools, businesses and governments in developing economies face,” said Poole. “Working with NComputing allows me to pursue my passion for addressing some of the most important global development issues via sustainable and eco-friendly technologies, including NComputing’s innovative virtualization solutions built on Windows.”

Poole joined Microsoft in 1996 through the acquisition of eShop Inc., a company he co-founded in 1991 and ran as president and chief operating officer. Prior to eShop, Poole spent five years at Sun Microsystems, working in senior marketing and engineering management roles. At Microsoft, Poole led various business development efforts, ran the Windows Digital Media Division for three years, and in 2003 assumed leadership of the Windows Client Business. For the past two years, Poole co-led Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential Group, which spearheads a companywide effort to create social and economic opportunity for the next 5 billion people—those in the middle and bottom of the world’s “economic pyramid”—with a focus on transforming education, fostering local innovation, and creating jobs and opportunities. In that role, Poole led development of Windows Starter (which has now been sold to over seven million first-time PC users around the world), championed Microsoft’s partnership with the One Laptop per Child organization, and built relationships worldwide with government and business leaders.

“With NComputing now exceeding a million unit annualized run rate, we’re poised for substantial and rapid growth. We are excited to have Will join us to guide our strategic direction and assist us in forging relationships with governments and other technology companies,” said Stephen Dukker, NComputing CEO and chairman. “We look forward to drawing from his experiences and relationships as we take NComputing to the next level.”

The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today's PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small fraction of the computer's capacity. NComputing's virtualization software and hardware tap this unused capacity so that it can be simultaneously shared by multiple users. Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse connect to the shared PC through a small and very durable NComputing access device. The access device itself has no CPU, memory or moving parts so it is rugged, durable, and easy to deploy and maintain, which is especially critical in developing nations. The NComputing solution costs as little as $70 per seat. More than 20,000 organizations in over 90 countries use NComputing solutions every day.

“NComputing has the potential to reshape the computing landscape and Will joining the company should substantially increase their potential for success given his background and contacts,” said Rob Enderle a leading technology analyst from the Enderle Group. “Education and commercial buyers are looking for ways to make their limited resources stretch to cover their growing needs and NComputing is uniquely suited to help many do exactly that.”
