NComputing CEO Stephen Dukker Reports on Progress in K-12 Computing in Innovation Roundtable with U.S. Secretary of Education
Redwood City, California, June 20, 2008 – NComputing, the leading provider of desktop virtualization software and hardware, today announced that company Chairman and CEO Stephen Dukker participated in a policy roundtable on technology innovation in K-12 education hosted by U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and Dr. Paul Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm (QCOM).
The event was held on June 16th in San Diego, California. The roundtable included leading educators, company executives, and venture capitalists that were selected based on their innovative solutions for K-12 education. The major goals of the roundtable were to explore promising approaches to improving education and how these approaches could be broadly implemented in schools throughout the country.
Dukker was selected because NComputing has already made a dramatic impact on computer affordability in U.S. schools by cutting computing costs as much as 70% and electric consumption by 90%.  The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today's PCs are so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small fraction of the computer's capacity. NComputing's virtualization software and hardware tap this unused capacity so that it can be simultaneously shared by multiple users.  Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse connect to the shared PC through a small and highly reliable NComputing access device.  Over 5,000 schools in the United States have deployed NComputing in their classrooms and computer labs.
“Today’s K-12 students have grown up in a digital world and their entire learning process is fundamentally different. Educators and schools recognize that they need to adapt and enrich the learning experience through additional computer and Internet access in the classroom, library and computer lab. But the technology budgets are extremely limited,” Dukker said. “NComputing enables schools to dramatically improve their student-to-computer ratios.”
NComputing systems have been deployed in schools and businesses in over 80 countries, including the Republic of Macedonia—which is the first country in the world to deploy one-to-one computing for every public student in its entire school system.  Macedonia recognized the need to train its future workforce with computer skills. They also recognized that e-learning engages students in subjects like math and science, and it allows advanced topics to be taught in more schools with distance learning.  Macedonia is rolling out 160,000 NComputing systems with 25,000 desktop PCs throughout its school system.  “Many developed and emerging market countries are recognizing the strategic advantage of using affordable computing solutions like NComputing to improve student to computer ratios,” Dukker said.
