NComputing Answers the Enterprise Call at BriForum

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., July 20, 2009 – NComputing, the leading provider of ultra low-cost computing, will demonstrate the world’s most popular virtual desktops, used daily by eight million people in 40,000 organizations, at the Seventh Annual BriForum in Chicago on July 21-23. The NComputing technology, whose early adopters were schools and developing countries, has seen increasing adoption in enterprises that are struggling with IT budgets and complex desktop virtualization projects. In recognition of their technology and inroads into enterprise IT, NComputing was recently honored as a ChannelWeb “Emerging Virtualization Vendor.” In addition, NComputing’s technology has been integrated by LG into a new line of LCD monitors, the SmartVine series, to encourage more widespread use of desktop virtualization.

BriForum, launched by virtualization guru Brian Madden, last year drew more than 400 technologists, journalist, authors, and industry executives and developers. Speakers and attendees explore challenges, discuss strategies and solutions, and evaluate developments in virtual desktop infrastructure, server-based computing, and application streaming. NComputing will display a single PC running NComputing vSpace virtualization software, which is capable of supporting up to 30 users.

The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today’s computers are so powerful that the vast majority of applications use only a small fraction of the computer’s capacity. NComputing technology enables a single PC or server to be virtualized so that many users can tap the unused capacity and share it as if each person had their own computer. Users attach to the shared PC through an NComputing access device. Each user’s monitor, keyboard and mouse connect to the access device, which delivers a virtual desktop via a simple connection to the shared computer. Each user enjoys a full PC experience, but acquisition costs typically drop by at least 50%, maintenance costs by 70%, and electricity costs by 90%. NComputing virtual desktops use just 1 to 5 watts of power, dramatically reducing electricity costs and qualifying for substantial energy-efficiency rebates. The NComputing solution supports both Windows and Linux platforms.

Since introducing the award-winning virtual desktop technology two years ago, NComputing has been recognized for its role in bringing truly affordable computing to schools, businesses, governments, hospitals, and factories. The company has earned significant industry awards, including the Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation award, the Gartner Cool Vendor Award, the Frost & Sullivan Green Computing award, and India’s most prestigious Social Impact Award, as well as numerous others from CES, Deloitte, CeBit, and ExpoComm.
